Competition is In the Air at Frederick’s 4th—An Independence Day Celebration

June 30, 2009, Frederick, MD - Competition is in the air at Frederick’s 4th, and it smells like chili…hot wings…and pizza.

Located just south of the main stage under the tent is the 2009 4th of July Chili cook-off and hot wing eating contest. Presented by 106.9 The Eagle, this year’s chili cook off will exhibit Frederick County’s spiciest, tastiest, and sauciest chili. The public is invited to choose their favorite and the people’s choice winner will be announced at 3:00 p.m. Also taking place under the tent is the hot wing eating contest. Iron stomachs will be on display as competitors go head to head for the chance to win awesome prizes and more importantly, bragging rights! Participants must be 18 years or older.

Pizza pie lovers unite! 930 WFMD presents the pizza pie eating competition at the band shell at 4:00 p.m. Be a spectator or, if you’re hungry enough, participate yourself, must be 18 or older. All participants must sign up at the band shell by 3:00 p.m., first come, first serve.

June 29, 2009, Frederick, MD- Celebrate Frederick Inc., and Frederick’s 4th—An Independence Day Celebration Committee presents the 26th annual Frederick’s 4th—An Independence Day Celebration, Saturday, July 4th, 2009 in Baker Park, Frederick, MD. Festivities will begin at noon and end at dusk.

Frederick, MD - July 4th Tea Party: Take Back America

Citizens of Frederick County Maryland gather to protest out-of-control spending and government growth.

Frederick, Maryland, July 4, 2009: On Saturday, July 4th, citizens from Frederick Maryland and surrounding counties, frustrated with the unrestrained growth in the size and power of government will gather again the make sure their voices are heard. The rally, to be held at the Frederick County Court House from 8:30 am to 10:00 am will feature local speakers from grassroots leaders, businesses and a variety of Frederick County Citizens. There will also be a guest appearance by President Thomas Jefferson to re-read the original Declaration of Independence.

Billed as “Take Back America” the rally is a follow up on the highly successful Tax Day Tea Party held on April 15th under rain dampened skies and in hundreds of cities across the country where attendees voiced their displeasure with the massive growth of an increasingly powerful federal government and unsustainable spending and debt. Speakers, led by Blaine Young of WFMD-AM 930 will offer their opinions and suggestions on how to restore the balance of power between the federal government and the states and individuals.The goal of the organizers of the rally is to provide a platform for citizens and grassroots leaders to come together to inspire participation in the growing movement for a return to constitutional principles with a focus on recruiting and supporting candidates at all levels, who are dedicated to limited government, individual liberty and free market principles.

Speakers scheduled to appear include President Thomas Jefferson, Blaine Young and Bob Miller of WFMD, Sherriff Chuck Jenkins, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, Joshua Lyons, Co-organizer, We Surround Them, Frederick County, and, Mark E. Kreslins, Co-organizer, We Surround Them, Frederick County.

The event is non-partisan and organizers have not solicited funds from political parties. The organizers have numerous volunteers to help stage the rally which will be broadcast over WFMD airwaves.

June 22, 2009, Frederick, MD - Celebrate Frederick Inc., and Frederick’s 4th—An Independence Day Celebration Committee presents the 26th annual Frederick’s 4th—An Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 4th, 2009 in Baker Park, Frederick, MD. This year’s entertainment is a solid lineup of acts sure to please anyone. Featured on the Main Stage is a tribute to “The Boss.” Don’t miss Bruce In The USA—the world’s number 1 tribute to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band; and on the Country Stage, country sensation, Steve Azar. Live music will fill the park throughout the day as the July 4th celebration rolls on. The Main Stage is located in the Carillon Area of the park near the Tennis Courts, and the Country Stage is located on the southwest side of the pool. Starting off the day is classic rock band Hectic Red. Hailing from Baltimore, MD, Hectic Red has been jamming together ever since 1987! Twenty-two years of experience has made Hectic Red one of the tightest, most diverse, and highly entertaining groups in the mid-Atlantic region. Hectic Red promises a great rock show playing your favorites from The Eagles, Queen and Billy Joel, just to name a few. Be sure to catch their set for an unforgettable classic rock experience!

ROCK & ROLL RELICS

Following-up their June 14th Summer Concert Series performance, Rock & Roll Relics return to Frederick with their undeniably catchy oldies rock sound. The Rock & Roll Relics has been deemed as one of the premier oldies musical acts in the Mid-Atlantic region. Accurately reproducing the sounds of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, The Rock & Roll Relics are sure to make you Twist and Shout!

Headlining act, Bruce In The USA, is the premier Bruce Springsteen Tribute band and their performances are more like an experience, than a concert. Bruce In The USA front man Matt Ryan’s uncanny resemblance to “The Boss” himself is what makes this band, the number one Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tribute band in the world! One of country music’s hottest performers, Steve Azar is set to headline the Country Stage. Launching a radio phenomenon with “I Don’t Have To Be Me (‘Til Monday)” and a video sensation with “Waitin’ on Joe,” Steve Azar has been gracing the country music charts and charming audiences for years now. His recent hit, “Moo La Moo,” even features its own dance sparking another sensation! CARILLON CONCERT

The Groningen Carillon Duo from the Northern Netherlands will treat visitors to a patriotic concert immediately following the fireworks display. The carillon is an instrument of 49 bells played mechanically with fists and feet. Baker Park’s carillon is one of only two in the entire state of Maryland.

2009 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS: SHANE GAMBLE

June 22, 2009, Frederick, MD - The 2009 Summer Concert Series, held at the Bandshell in Baker Park, will present singer/songwriter Shane Gamble on Sunday, June 28th. A returning hometown favorite, independent solo artist Shane Gamble blends his unique lyrics with musical arrangements that incorporate folk, rock, pop and country. This free live performance, part of the Summer Concert Series presented by Celebrate Frederick Inc., begins at 7:00 p.m.

The 26-year-old Maryland native has been playing professionally since his college days in 1999. He started out booking and playing shows in the Maryland area and gained a strong local fan base. Since then he has played more than 1400 shows nationwide in clubs, festivals and colleges. He has created his own record label, Rt. 50 Music, Inc. and has released two albums “Behind the Blue” (2007) and “Talk About” (2002). In summer 2009, he will be releasing an EP “One Balloon” which features Rami Jaffe on keyboards.

The artist is outfitted with a warm, throaty tenor voice reminiscent of Jakob Dylan and a high-ceiling falsetto that brings to mind Ben Harper. His early influences were artists such as the Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin, which left a permanent mark on his music. Shane has created a distinctive-sound centered on his thought- provoking lyrics, colorful guitar patterns, and haunting ‘70’s –esque pedal-steel, while striking a delicate balance between pop hooks , atmospheric ballads, and pocket grooves.

‘MARYLAND SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL’S KIDZONE AND WORKSHOP’

June 17, 2009, Frederick, MD - Making Shakespeare exciting for younger generations, the Maryland Shakespeare Festival presents KidZONE and Workshop, a theatrical experience, is set to take the Baker Park Bandshell stage Thursday, June 25th. This free live performance—part of the Summerfest Family Theatre, presented by Celebrate Frederick, Inc.—begins at 10:30 a.m. Please make special note of this day and time change for the Summerfest Family Theatre. All performances of the 2009 Series will be held on Thursday mornings at 10:30am through August 13.

The Maryland Shakespeare Festival presents a professional, innovative and classical theatre that is incredibly dedicated to its community. The Festival provides free outdoor performances of Shakespeare plays during the summer months with their mission concentrating on performance, education and performance research. Making Shakespeare exciting for children, the Festival’s performances are a great opportunity to expose your children to classic and eternal stories in an exciting and entertaining way! 2009 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES and

COMSTAR FEDERAL CREDIT UNION PRESENTS: ROCK & ROLL RELICS

June 5, 2009, Frederick, MD - The 2009 Summer Concert Series at the Bandshell in Baker Park will kick off June 14th with the Rock & Roll Relics. Deemed as one of the premier oldies musical acts in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Rock & Roll Relics perform a laundry-list of favorites from the 1950’s and ‘60’s. This free live performance-part of the Summer Concert Series, presented by Celebrate Frederick Inc. and COMSTAR Federal Credit Union-begins at 7 p.m.

The band has an extensive history and has endured numerous member changes but they still live on as one of the most entertaining cover artists around the Mid-Atlantic. Rock & Roll Relics first performances were at the Saturday Night Cruise-Ins, a classic car event in Mt. Airy, during the summer of 1997. Since then the band kept evolving, losing members, gaining members and currently have been playing with the same line-up since the fall of 2008. Rock & Roll Relics consists of Golden Girl Gail Chiappone on guitar and vocals, Couch Potato Chip Chiappone on bass and vocals, Pension Pete Lightning on keyboards and vocals and Bill “Broadway Willie” Miskell on drums and vocals.

The band concentrates on reproducing the sounds of the songs of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s and perform a wide variety of styles ranging from street corner doo-wop, to the sounds of the Beach Boys and the Beatles. The band is sure to make you Twist and Shout!

SUMMER NITE CINEMA ANNOUNCES JUNE 6TH MOVIE

Frederick, MD-June 1, 2009 - Celebrate Frederick announces that PG-13 rated movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” will be featured as part of the 2009 Summer Nite Cinema movie series on Saturday, June 6th. This movie showing, for the 21-and-over crowd, includes a happy hour and live music before the movie. The movie was selected by an online voting poll featured on the www.CelebrateFrederick.com website.

The movie will be shown on the top level of the West Patrick Street parking deck located on 138 West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick, Maryland. Celebrate Frederick provides the movie, the screen and the stars; bring your friends for a fun-filled night at the Cinema! Movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Happy hour begins at 6pm and the movie at dusk, approximately 8:30pm. Admission fee is $5. Food vendors will be on site with delicious food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, Italian sausage, pulled pork, fries, funnel cakes and so much more.
