PANGAEA FREDERICK – A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE

Festival to host International music, dance, food, and marketplace

Celebrate Frederick is pleased to announce this year’s 3rd annual Pangaea Frederick agenda. This unique festival aims to unite the Frederick community in celebrating culture, heritage, and the importance of diversity. This year, the festival is changing location from the Westridge Square Shopping Center to Frederick’s Baker Park, and is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 8th.

A Naturalization Ceremony will kick off festivities at 11:00 a.m.


NATURALIZATION CEREMONY

The 2010 Naturalization Ceremony is an event that for many represents the culmination of years of commitment, patience, learning and arduous work toward achieving American citizenship. Celebrate Frederick is happy to share in this ceremony to recognize over 100 new US citizens as their take the Oath of Allegiance.

WORLD STAGE

Noon – 12:45 p.m. Asian Heritage Performances – Coordinated by LIFE & Discovery Inc. and Fiesta Asia. – From East Asia to South Asia, these performers will enthrall audiences with a mythical dragon, powerful martial arts, legendary drumming, intricate costumes and vibrant hip shaking!

1:15 – 2:00 PM Trio Caliente – This sizzling band fuses elements of Bossa Nova, gypsy rumba and contemporary flamenco with soothing jazz vocals and musical arrangements, creating a unique Latin-flavored sound.

2:45 – 3:30 PM Kwame and the Fritete African Drum and Dance Ensemble – This ensemble is committed to preserving and promoting West African culture through traditional rhythms, dance, song and chants.

4:15 – 5:00 PM The Crawdaddies – Flavors of Cajun, Zydeco and Reggae are combined to create a groove-laden sound that is unquestionably unique. This group’s eclectic and good-time spirit attract and thrill audiences of all ages.

HERITAGE PERFORMANCE STAGE -

12:15 – 12:45 PM Frederick Salsa, Inc. – Enjoy energetic performances of popular Latin dances such as Salsa, Merengue and Bachata.

1:00 – 1:30 PM Asian Heritage Performance – Community performances coordinated by LIFE & Discovery.

1:45 – 2:45 PM Native Americas People – Expressions of Native American Culture –Meaningful stories unfold during this rhythmic dance and drum performance. Colorful regalia enhance this stunning expression of Native American culture.

3:00 – 3:30 PM Asian Heritage Performance – Community performances coordinated by LIFE & Discovery.

3:45 – 4:15 PM Hula Dancers from Art in Motion Inc. – Bringing a taste of Polynesian tradition to Pangaea Frederick, these exciting dancers showcase the beauty and culture of the Hawaiian Islands.

4:30 – 5:00 PM Asian Heritage Performance – Community performances coordinated by LIFE & Discovery.

BEER & WINE GARDEN

Enjoy beverages from around the world in the Pangaea Frederick Beer and Wine Garden. Choose from wines made in Portugal and France, or from beer brewed in Germany, England and the United States. Must be 21 years of age with valid I.D. to attend. $


FUTSAL TOURNAMENT – NEW!

The Inaugural Futsal Tournament begins at Noon and lasts throughout the afternoon. This soccer-like sport originated in South America, with strong ties to Portugal and Spain. The winning team in the Pangaea Frederick Futsal Tournament will receive a purse valued at $300.00, so the competition is sure to be exciting. Adults ages 18 and older are invited to register.
