Urbana Farmers Market opens July 5th!

The historic Landon House in Urbana today announced plans to open the Urbana Farmers Market every Sunday from 1-4pm beginning on Sunday, July 5, 2009 and continuing through September. The Urbana Farmers Market is part of a growing movement to provide fresh, locally-produced produce directly from farmer to consumer. Market Manager Kevin Dolan has been working closely with the Community Foundation of Frederick County as well as the Frederick County Office of Economic Development to implement a cost-effective and healthy offering of Frederick County farm produce and goods. "We're very excited and there seems to be a pretty good buzz about the Urbana Farmers Market already", says Dolan. "People in Urbana seem to be interested in having a community farmer's market close to home. Colby Ferguson of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development has been instrumental in helping us get smart about what it takes to pull something like this off. We're going to take it slow and build it the right way."

Several local farms, including Mayne's in Buckeystown, have committed to providing their produce on a regular basis. There are plans to feature regular entertainment such as bluegrass bands, tours of the Landon House, living history presentations featuring U.S. Grant, Mary Lincoln and other Civil War figures. The Urbana Farmers Market will be open every Sunday 1-4 PM from July through September. It will also feature local crafters and artisans presenting their wares as well as flea market tables. Click Here for more info. Vendors interested in tables may also call 301-305-6600 for more information.
