IN THE STREET FESTIVAL Date Change

IN THE STREET FESTIVAL MOVING TO THE SECOND SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER

July 29, 2010, Frederick MD – The 28th Annual In The Street celebration will move from the first Saturday in October to the second Saturday in September. This date change is permanent and the 2010 festival will be held on Saturday, September 11th. In addition, Light the Creek and On the Deck Party events are moved accordingly. Please also note that the On the Deck Party held annually at the Carroll Creek Parking Deck will move to a new, permanent location in 2010 - the Carroll Creek Amphitheatre. The event will be promoted as the “Up the Creek Party.”

The 2010 In The Street festival officially kicks-off Friday, September 10th, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with Light the Creek. The festival continues on Saturday, September 11th at 9:30a.m. with the Market Street Mile. At 11:00 a.m., In the Street officially begins and continues all day until 5:00 p.m. Following In The Street is the Up the Creek Party held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The reasons for the date change are as follows:

October is a month packed with events, locally and regionally. Celebrate Frederick wants to give an opportunity for other events to succeed and avoid the competition

September traditionally has warmer weather, with less chance of cold rain

Vendors and organizations that are engaged with other events in early October are now able to be a part of In The Street to help make it more successful

July 29, 2010, Frederick, MD- Frederick’s Annual In the Street Celebration has moved to September this year and is a great way to welcome the end of summer and start of the fall season. The celebration begins with Light the Creek on Friday September 10th and continues through Saturday evening. This year’s event will feature tons of music with a diverse array of performers that will entertain and please all. This year the “On the Deck Party” goes “Up the Creek” with a new location. Don’t miss the fun at the Carroll Creek Amphitheatre located along the Carroll Creek linear park in downtown Frederick from 5:30 to 9:00pm on Saturday the 11th.

LIGHT THE CREEK: Carroll Creek Amphitheatre, Carroll Creek Linear Park

Friday, September 10th, 6-9pm

Come out and start the celebration early on Friday night with Frederick native, Scott Ambush. Now well known for being the bass player of Spyro Gyra, Ambush was influenced by rock and roll classics like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin as well as the jazz melodies of Stanley Clark and Return to Forever. He will be showing off his talent and rhythm on the bass Friday night, so come enjoy food, beer, wine, and the jazz rhythms of Scott Ambush as a preview of what Saturday has in store.


IN THE STREET FESTIVAL: Market Street and Carroll Creek Linear Park

Saturday, September 11th, 11-5pm

This year’s entertainment line up will feature three stages of live entertainment, along with various performances in Old Towne Beer and Wine garden and under the trellis, on the north side of Carroll Creek Linear Park.

Second Street Stage presented by 99.9 WFRE

Event Sponsor WFRE will be hosting a variety of performances on this stage. Grammy Award winning artist, Taylor Swift, was a past performer on the WFRE stage at In the Street and look at her now!

Sunny Sweeney: 11:00am

Born and raised in Longview, Texas, Sunny Sweeney is a performer sure to please the crowd. She is well known for her sassy country performances and her debut album “Heartbreak Hall of Fame.” This former improve comedian will definitely get the crowd laughing and dancing as the day’s celebration begins.

Sarah Darling: 1:30pm

You may recognize this name from the reality show “The Entertainer.” As a top finalist in the competition Sarah Darling is pleased at the way her career as a country singer has started to take off. Her soulful and poetic lyrics are sure to provide a great performance at the Second Street Stage.

Due West: 4:00pm

This country trio of best friends formed their band in 2004. Since then their reputation has grown beyond that of a Nashville tribute band to extend to their songwriting and performances with country stars like Lady Antebellum. Come out and see a show that will surely leave you wanting more.

Fourth Street Stage presented by DARCARS Toyota of Frederick

The Mark DeRose Band: 11:15- 12:30pm

This rock quartet has a passion for performing that radiates through the audience as the play their thoughtful and inspiring lyrics. Their upbeat performances are sure to spread their “feel good” vibe through the crowd as they day’s festivities kick off.

Bad Influence: 1:15-2:30pm

Know as one of Washington DC’s premiere blues bands “The Bad Influence Band” has been sharing their contemporary blues sounds throughout the US and abroad. The Blue Revue magazine has described this group as having “flair and finesse” that comes out in their original material. Be sure to check out the blues rhythms of the Bad Influence Band.

Chester River Run-Off: 3:15-4:30

Sharing their own original combination of country, bluegrass and americana these four performers have taken bluegrass to a unique and inspiring level. They have created lyrics and sounds that separate their performances from the typical bluegrass show and are sure to give a bluegrass performance unlike those you’ve seen in the past.

Seventh Street Stage

Saraceeta: 11:45-1:00pm

This stage will open with a combination of the original reggae beats of this energetic quintet and along with their versions of your favorite songs. Their covers include songs from rock and roll classics like, Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones. Saraceeta takes their fun loving attitude and infuses it into their original funk and reggae lyrics creating a performance that will give off an energy that will start the day off with a bang.

Kelly Bell Band: 1:45-3:00pm

Returning as a Frederick favorite yet again the Kelly Bell Band will be sharing their Phat Blues lyrics for the day’s celebration. You may remember their performance from the fourth of July, and this one is sure to be another one of their greatest sets here in the Frederick area.

Jah Works: 3:45- 5:00pm

The high energy, reggae lyrics of this group have been in high demand since 1993 when the group formed. They have played for the troops in the Middle East, as well as, for the presidential Inauguration of President Obama. They are known for the party style atmosphere there performances give off are sure to get your feet tapping as they share their fun reggae inspired songs.

Located on the north side of Carroll Creek Linear Park

Willie Barry: 11:30-12:30pm

This new act is a clear indication that talent and age are not linked. Only 15 years old, singer songwriter Willie Barry started playing the guitar two years ago and has continued to write his own lyrics, with the inspiration from his idol, Bob Dylan. His performance will include some of Dylan’s classics along with his original lyrics, which he has been working on for his album, “Yes We Can.” This fresh faced performer will show what a passion for music is all about.

The Jug Band: 1:00-2:00pm

Focused on preserving the history of jug bands and spreading the joy of live performance this local group is sure to give a folk performance that inspires a love of folk music. Relax and enjoy the sounds of a classic jug band.

ilyaimy: 2:30-3:30pm

Described as having “stately, thoughtful and intuitive lyrics,” by the Folk and Acoustic Music exchange, this Maryland native touring duo provides a performance that is influenced by folk and acoustic rock rhythms. Their performances have a unique approach to the classic folk sound that is sure to please.

Mason Vixon: 4:00-5:00pm

Joining us from Baltimore Maryland this country group is currently writing lyrics to create their debut album. They mix country with a little bit of rock to create a style all their own. Since 2009 Mason Vixon has been giving performances that always excite and inspire the crowd to get their toes tapping.

Olde Towne Beer and Wine Garden

Danny Grizzle: 11:45-1:00pm

The soulful and honest lyrics of this Frederick native performer are said to leave a lasting impression on audiences. His belief is that “Honesty in music is a very important concept.” This performance will give a refreshing and exciting approach to some classic songs along with highlighting the talent of this songwriter’s in his original lyrics.

Freddie Long Band: 1:45-3:00pm

Returning to their Frederick roots, the Freddie Long Band is described by IndieMusic.com as having “a sense of how to make music both fun and meaningful.” Their talents have brought them success in just a short few years. They have shared stages with singers like Jo Dee Messina and Edwin McCain as well as been nominated for several music awards. With rising success tributes to their love of music and passion for performance this Frederick originated band is not a performance to be missed.

Josh Burgess Band: 3:45-5:00pm

Well known throughout the Maryland and Virginia area the Josh Burgess band provides a grassroots rock experience that is always upbeat and fun. The group has originals that take a touch of influence from folk, funk and reggae to create their unique sound. Their self written originals and classic covers are sure to provide a crowd pleasing performance.

Up the Creek Party*: Carroll Creek Amphitheatre, Carroll Creek Linear Park

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Dance Day Celebration on July 31st 2010

We here at Urbana Dance Studio want to get the word out to Frederick and Western Maryland that we are hosting a National Dance Day Celebration on July 31st 2010.

We will be hosting the event at the new Urbana Village Shopping Center located at the intersection of 355 (Frederick road) and route 80 in the heart of Urbana.

This is event was inspired by and in conjunction with the National Dance Day being advocated by the Fox program “So you think you can Dance” that is sponsored by the Dizzy Feet Foundation.

We encourage everyone to check out the website www.dizzyfeetfoundation.org and LEARN THE NATIONAL DANCE DAY DANCE before the July 31st activities. There is an easy step-by-step instruction video by NappyTabs. For those who may not have time or prefer live learning, Urbana Dance will have instruction at the event and will be teaching and reviewing the National Dance Day Dance – once everyone knows the steps we will be filming everyone dancing to send into the show!!! ‘NATTY BEAUX’ - July 18th

2010 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS ‘NATTY BEAUX’


July 18, 2010, Frederick, MD – Get ready to ‘finger-snap’ and ‘toe-tap’ with Natty Beaux, a swing band from the Washington D.C. area. Natty Beaux will perform at Baker Park Bandshell on July 18 as part of the Summer Concert Series, presented by Celebrate Frederick, Inc.

Composed of five talented and respected musicians, most of whom are Washington Area Music Association Award winners, the Natty Beaux give a certain twist to classic numbers from Louis Prima, Ray Charles, Louis Jordan, Bobby Darin, Elvis, Gene Vincent, Nat King Cole, Jerry Lee Lewis and more. The band’s love for classic jump-blues, rockabilly and swing makes their performance full with energy, diversity and fun. In fact, some fans have begun to refer to them as “The Rolling Stones of Swing.”

All Summer Concert Series performances are free to the public, but the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. All items collected benefit the Frederick Food Bank.

The performance is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Baker Park Bandshell. 2010 SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATRE PRESENTS

‘DC LUAU ENTERTAINMENT’

DC Luau Entertainment will bring the island atmosphere to Frederick on July 8th, sharing the aloha spirit with audiences in Baker Park! Audiences of all ages will enjoy this unique performance of Summerfest Family Theatre on the Baker Park Band Shell stage beginning at 10:30 a.m. This free live performance - part of the Summerfest Family Theatre - is presented by Celebrate Frederick, Inc.

Families will enjoy a colorful energy-filled luau Polynesian revue featuring dances of Hawaii, New Zealand, Somoa, and Tahiti. With authentic hand crafted costumes, island music, a fire dance demonstration, and audience participation; this show is one you do not want to miss!

While all Summerfest Theatre performances are free to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick Food Bank.
